CT Port Authority seeks input on proposed Community Grant Program.

The Connecticut Port Authority is proposing a new Community Grant Program designed to strengthen the state’s maritime economy by supporting local projects that enhance waterfront access, promote maritime tourism, and celebrate Connecticut’s ports, harbors, riverfronts, and waterfront communities. The public is invited to review and comment on the proposal before it is formally adopted.

The proposed grant program provides funding for municipalities, Connecticut State Universities and Colleges, and nonprofit organizations undertaking projects with a clear maritime connection and public benefit. Under the proposal, grants of up to $10,000 will be available in three categories:

  • Tourism Infrastructure: projects that improve visitor experiences at maritime and waterfront destinations, such as signage, wayfinding, and small-scale amenities.
  • Community Activation: initiatives that connect residents and visitors with Connecticut’s maritime heritage through education, stewardship, public art, and/or storytelling.
  • Planning and Capacity Building: early-stage planning efforts, feasibility studies, and other projects that prepare communities for future maritime investments.

As proposed, applications will be reviewed every two months throughout the fiscal year until available funding is exhausted. Awards will be distributed across Connecticut’s coastline to encourage a diverse range of maritime programming and community engagement opportunities.
